I have tried a few chendols in Melaka and few (if any) can beat this one at Justberrys. Even the locals think so (namely my Malaccan friends) and had sadly admitted that most local nyonya food and chendol are not what it was before.
It’s surprising that it is not an old stall by the roadside (for nostalgia sake) that takes the title of “best chendol” but a modern, air conditioned, sterile shoplot.
Yes, the venue is clean and it is comfortable, but but…
BUT let’s not complain. At least I could still get my chendol fix here in Melaka. All hope is not lost.
I had loved Justberrys when they were still known as Pinkberrys back in 2011 at their 1st outlet in Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall (you can see the review here: http://www.rebeccasaw.com/pinkberrys-cendol-dataran-pahlawan-melaka-megamall/) and I’m glad that the chendol is just as lovely as ever.
On this recent trip it was one pure chendol and another the Durian Ice that came with small sago pearls and pomelo flesh.
The durian is of good quality; creamy and sweet with a slight bitter edge. The vital ingredients – fine ice, thick fragrant gula melaka and pure coconut milk – the very recipe for a great chendol is obviously understood here at JustBerrys.
That, and fresh chendol strips (not mushy ones!) and soft, well cooked red beans.
Do you like your red beans small or big (the kidney beans)?
I prefer mine small but hey, one can’t have everything I guess?
I look as happy as the Justberrys mascot here!
Yups, that’s what a good bowl of marvelous chendol does to you!
