A new burger joint opens its doors today at 5 pm and just yesterday evening I was invited for a tasting session at their brand new outlet.

We were a small group of 4, and 3 of them found the burgers to be satisfactory. That said, my dining partner concurred with me about a few things; one of which that the patties were overly salty but then he’s the sort who prefers his food salty.
All in all, it wasn’t a good dining experience for me. As each burgers were served, my initial impression didn’t change. As I formulate my review in my head, I realized this is not going to be a favourable one.

A chat after the aftermath of 6 burgers revealed the reasons. It was obvious that these 2 young entrepreneurs are suffering from first week opening jitters.
Or so I think.
Kitchen malfunction, suppliers, last week minute modifications and a nervous hand at the stove, the owners admitted that the burgers tonight wasn’t what it was meant to be.

And thus I’ll let the matter rest. I’ve got some nice pictures to illustrate what YOU, my friends and readers who is browsing through this post now can expect when you walk-in at 23, Jalan Telawi 2 from tonight onwards.

Tattooed buns, smash and grilled patties with charred crispy crust and some very interesting homemade sauces.
Each burger are very individualistic, as none has borrowed flavours from the other.

It didn’t seem professional nor fair for me to dishearten 2 young enthusiastic foodies who are opening the doors to their culinary venture in less than 5 hours.
They do not claim to be professional chefs (both are from accounting background); but merely foodies who would felt that there is a market for their burgers. I have to I admit that their offerings does have its merits when compared to the other current joints.
Both Steven & Joey are thoroughly humble, down to earth people. And no, they didn’t try to influence my review and it was solely my decision to publish a pictorial post instead of a full fledged review.
The review will come in time, most probably a few weeks after their opening once things are in full swing and when I walk-in and pay for my own burgers.

Meanwhile, enjoy the pictures and do let me know if any of you did drop in for some Killer Gourmet Burgers! As usual, I welcome honest, constructive feedback, not trolls. :)

The Shack (RM 13.90): Smashed patty, sharp cheddar, “shack sauce”. It reminded all of us that evening of McD Quarter Pounder. A good or bad thing? I’ll leave it to you to decide.

Kick’N (RM 15.90): Parm-crusted chicken, sharp cheddar, and wasabi mayo. “Parm” here refers to the parmesan crust for the chicken. Which frankly, was barely discernible for me.
Oh wait, this wasn’t supposed to be a review. Ok, I’ll let you find out for yourself.

But let me add this, the chicken burger was pretty enjoyable. It was tender to bite and juicy while the wasabi mayo imparted a noticeable sting, which is great after all the other burgers earlier which had rich, creamy sauce.

Sides:

Kimchi with Bulgogi Beef Fries: RM13.90.

The noticeable kimchi-ed component was only the cabbage. Others are bulgogi beef pieces, onions, sour cream, cheddar cheese & another sauce that I can’t remember. This is very much Korean and Mexican influenced; something that Joey and Steven sampled during their travels and liked very much and hence it’s now on the menu.

Truffle’d Fries: RM9.90. Only a hint of it. You get what you pay for. :)

Cajun Fries: RM5.90. Skin on fries are good. But the cajun spices didn’t really work for me.
